The second edition of the Resorts World Manila Masters in November will offer an increased prize fund of US$1 million, tournament organizers announced. The Asian Tour event, which offered a prize fund of US$750,000 last year, will also boast a new presenting sponsor,, when the event returns to Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club from November 20-23.

Last year, Chinese star Liang Wenchong came from behind to pip Thailand’s Prom Meesawat in a thrilling play-off to win the inaugural Resorts World Manila Masters.

The Chinese champion then earned plaudits for donating half of his prize money tow the relief efforts in the country following the damage caused by Typhoon Haiyan. Stephen Reilly, COO of Resorts World Manila, said: “Last year’s inaugural Resorts World Manila Masters proved to be a victory not just for champion Liang Wenchong but also for Philippine golf. By providing a stage in Southwoods Golf and Country Club, top-calibre golfers from the Philippines and around the world were able to compete in the country’s biggest golf tournament to date.

“This year, together with Asian Tour and our new presenting sponsor, we look forward to making the Resorts World Manila Masters even bigger and better with an increased prize fund of US$1 million.”

Kyi Hla Han, Chairman of the Asian Tour, lauded Resorts World Manila’s decision to raise the tournament’s prize money by another US$250,000 and believes the million-dollar purse will further elevate its stature in Asia.
